Features of this piece
Beyond the mist, something can be seen, stretching in a line. Across the middle of the milky white glaze, a single dark row passes — and what it is, you cannot tell until the mist lifts.
Seen through the haze, the line bleeds into silver-grey and glows, its edges faintly reddening. It thickens, thins, seems about to break and yet carries on. The longer you look, the more each person finds their own landscape rising in it.
Look inside and the interior is a single white, as if it had gathered the brightness of the mist. Over the gently undulating rim, a time of facing something far away — that is the landscape of this bowl. The foot is fine-grained Mogusa clay, and a faint fire-red touches the base.

Shino
The moment of change
Shino is an elusive vessel that was created for only a brief period in the tea world over 450 years ago. It was fired in large kilns and anagama kilns from the late 16th century to the early 17th century. The charm of Shino lies in its characteristic appearance of a snow-white surface, created by using feldspar, with a subtle, warm fire color visible within it. Bringing out this beautiful color is extremely difficult due to the need for strong reduction firing, where the kiln temperature does not easily rise, necessitating constant temperature adjustments day and night. The kiln firing lasts for more than seven days, conducted under extremely harsh conditions, requiring careful attention. The outcome varies significantly with the seasons and climate, demanding a level of delicacy that allows for no moment of inattention. The color of Shino leaves an impression like "the soil seen after the snow melts" or "a beautiful sunset formed by clouds and the setting sun." Capturing and expressing the fleeting natural beauty without any preconceived ideas or intentions, Shino continues to captivate people's hearts, both now and in the past.
Rest for the heart Shino
In today's busy world, it's often difficult to find time to relax. It's important to pause and take time for yourself amidst the hectic daily routine. Why not create moments to enjoy tea or a meal? Shino ware is made from natural clay, and because of its coarse particles, it is said that the "vessel breathes." This is why the entire vessel feels so alive. Its warm touch and gentle feel when it touches your lips provide comfort and help to relieve daily stress. Each piece is carefully crafted with heart by the ceramic artist Kato Takaya to enrich your heart even a little. Enjoy a moment of relaxation and forget the busyness of modern life with Shino ware.
